Anette Schrage

Anette Schrage is a mixed-media artist with a focus on photography, digital art, painting and collage.

Anette's latest work, Terra Incognita, explores the uncharted territories of the future with a series of metaphorical portraits. Each piece invites viewers to engage with the concept of the 'big Unknown,' reflecting on humanity's essential ability to use imagination as a tool for navigating the uncertainties that lie ahead.

“The future remains an undiscovered country, shrouded in uncertainty and potential. Each moment holds the power to transform our lives dramatically, prompting us to prepare for what lies ahead. In our quest for stability, we engage in a continuous process of imagining, planning, and predicting the future, often grappling with our deepest fears and highest hopes, including the concept of an afterlife.

Our diverse backgrounds shape unique perspectives on joy and sorrow, yet a common thread unites us: the necessity of introspection. To navigate the unknown, we must delve into our innermost desires and aspirations, seeking clarity on what we truly wish for in our future.”

Through a blend of emotional imagery and thought-provoking symbolism, Anette challenges us to confront our fears and aspirations about what is yet to come, ultimately encouraging a dialogue about the potential paths we may take as we venture into the undiscovered country of our collective future.

Born in Germany, Anette also lived in Spain and Southern California before moving to Saltspring Island to concentrate on her artistic career. She has consistently exhibited since 2014, including four times at the juried Sooke Fine Art Show, at the 2023 independent art show ”Little Pockets of Defiant Beauty” and at several annual Photosynthesis Shows. She was a finalist at the 2023 Parallel Art Show and a featured artist at the 2024 “Exquisite Surreal” SSNAP Fundraiser art show.
